Peón Contreras

The oldest and most beautiful theater in Mérida bears the name of José Peón Contreras, an immortal poet, novelist, playwright, essayist, physician, and Yucatecan politician. Inspired by the French neoclassical style, the theater was inaugurated in 1908.
Currently it is the headquarters of the Yucatán Symphony Orchestra. It has its own galleries, where the most prominent artists exhibit their works.

Armando Manzanero

Located in the Historic Center of Mérida, it began as a movie theater in 1949. The Mérida Cinema, with its luxurious lobby, became an avant-garde forum in the southeast of the country. In 1992 it closed its activities; However, in 2000, after a remodeling, it was reopened as an artistic space for multiple uses.

Teatro Daniel Ayala

The Daniel Ayala Pérez Theater was inaugurated in 1914. Its initial name was Salón Jardín; then it changed to Teatro Cine Principal. In 1976, the state government imposed the name of Daniel Ayala, in homage to this Yucatecan musician. This theater houses the Juan García Ponce bookstore of the Educal System, where the work of this great Yucatecan writer as well as various local, national and international authors is available.

Iglesia del Jesús Tercera Orden

It was built at the end of the 17th century by the Jesuits. Attaching to it a superb and elegant design. which has led it to be recognized as the second most sublime construction, only after the Cathedral of San Ildefonso. It is located one block from the Cathedral.
